Matthew Arnold on U. S. Grant's Memoirs

Matthew Arnold said of Grant's memoirs that [They have] "... the highest merit of saying clearly in as few words as possible what had to be said, and saying it, frequently, with shrewd and unexpected turns of expression."

(I found this quote embedded in a scathing review of George Bush's attempted foray into the genre.)
